C2 windshield wiper

I know I posted this before and received advice, but, I still can't figure out how to get the spring back in my 67 OE windshield wiper. Any additional advice would be appreciated. I would like to keep the wiper if possible.

A 'holding clip' mounts between the spring and dowel pin. If you look closely at the holding clip, you should see a middle hole that serves 'no purpose' whatsoever... Hole wasn't put there for no reason, though. That's the 'grab' point to expand the spring and get the clip over the dowel pin. Try a pair of needle nose pliers to extend the spring + a small screwdriver blade to support the holding clip until it clears the dowel pin and WATCH your fingers!!!!

Thanks Jack. I'll look for the clip tonight. If I can find it I think I understand the rest. I appreciate the help.
