What's the deal on the Anniversary car? The dealers around here act like they're lucky to get one car and are asking list price or more. Does anyone know how many they're making?

Re: Nope.
But when it comes to Corvettes, regardless of the year, the consumer is almost always going to be on the short end of the rules of supply and demand. Beside, if you do manage to get one soon, you can at least be assured that it has been fully restored and the numbers match.:-)- Top

Re: 2003 C5 50th Anniversary
I haven't picked up how many GM plans to build. Supposedly the were going to build to demand - it was not a so-called "limited edition" with only so many planned from the start, but the tinted clear coat requires an extra run through the paint shop as does millenium yellow and the former magnetic red metallic, and these have always been on constraint because the paint shop is the bottleneck at Bowling Green.
I have heard that all the 50th models are either built or ordered, so you will probably have to buy one from stock unless you can find a dealer who will sell you one he already has submitted for a stock order, but most seem to go on the floor with a markup.
I have a friend in northern CA who bought one last month. (He went in to order a part for his '85.) The dealer was asking $10 over sticker, and he ended up buying it for sticker.
The good news is that Z06 models are being discounted 4-5K by some of the big dealers, and they have lots of them in stock and on the way.

2003 C5 50th Anniversary #s
From the C5 Registry
Tuesday, October 29
Members, 50th Anniversary C5 Coupe and Convertible model sales remain strong. So strong, that rumors are flying that pressure is being placed on Wil Cooksey and the Bowling Green Assembly Plant to put out another couple of thousand. Sales of the 50th Anniversary models up to early October are running a solid 2 to 1 50th Anniversary Convertibles over 50th Anniversary Coupes. The best information we have indicates 1,500 Convertibles to 600 Coupes. But lets not forget about our beloved Z06 (the TRUE king of performance at some $33,000 less than the new Viper according to ALL the magazines!). Wil Cooksey’s group has put out 2,250 of them as of early October. The plant is on time to produce 25% of total production as Z06’s. Just a little math seems to point out, with possibly 12,000 50th Anniversary coupe and convertibles and 8,000 Z06’s, the 15,000 remaining "LIMITED PRODUCTION" C5’s will turn out to the "RARE" ones of the production year. Although it’s still too early to tell, the math indicates that 2003 may be on track for a record number of Corvette Convertibles, exceeding the 14,173, which was 40% of production in 2001.- Top

Re: 2003 C5 50th Anniversary #s
Sounds about right.
But if you think the 50th will be a hot collectible in 20 years, think again.
You see how much demand there is for the two-tone 25th or 35th Editions, right? Yeah, me too. In 2-3 years, once C6 is out and the leases on these new ones are over (or their 0% financing is done) you'll see them flood the market. I agree that the "special" 2003's will be some of the non-Anniversary ones. The dealer I had my 2003 50th on order through (since cancelled as it's not a special car) said that he would have more trouble getting me a regular car than a 50th.

Re: 2003 C5 50th Anniversary #s
Hi everyone,
Rather than falling for the 50th anniversary hype (and additional cost), I believe that if I were ordering an '03, I would order a white convertible with a black top, and red interior as the '53s were. Wouldn't that be more of a fitting 50th tribute than what the General has offered? Just my 2 cents.
Happy Holidays

Re: 2003 C5 50th Anniversary #s
--------Am curious as to projected Corvette production nos. once the Cadillac is being produced alongside. Will Corvette nos. go down?Is the plant,as currently configured, underutilized to the point that Cadillac production wont matter? Will the Cadillac "sportscar" possibly eat into Corvette sales and therefore cause a cut in Corvette production?Anybody got a crystal ball out there?.........Bill S- Top

Re: 2003 C5 50th Anniversary
I took delivery of my 03 6 spd elec blue conv 12 19 02 at the museum. I am so happy I was not one of ten anniversary cars awaiting delivery. I would say at the factory tour every five out of ten cars was an anniversary car. I would agree my car will be more collectible in the long run. The cadillac will be built in stations not on the line with the corvette. I did see a few of them, I was not impressed. I was told they build 156 corvettes a day. There also was no set limit on the number of anniversary cars, and one of the museum reps said gm will build as many as they can sell. Tommy NCRS #30734- Top
