    59 corvette third member -C1

    C-1 Hello can someone tell me how to remove the third member 0n my 59 .. Got it jacked up ,wheels and brake drumes removed,oil drained .. Now how do you get the axcels out? thank you very much ,as you have helped me in the past James...

    The bearing seal is sticking, you can rent a axle slide puller connected to the wheel nuts.
    Or if you live 100 miles from a city you can un-do the brake line and useing the backing plate and a block of wood hit the plate back to drive it out.

      James again you could set the drum back on the axle and just add the nuts on a little bit, so that you can slide it back to you useing it as a puller, should not take much banging to release it.

        James,
        Roy didn't ask, so I will. Have you taken the 4 nuts loose on the rear of the backing plate that hold the bearing retainer plate in? If not, the remove the nuts and pull on the axle like Roy says and they should come out. Thge only thing holding the axle in is the bearing retainer plate.

            Ok guys ,have new rear back in car now . What weight gear lube ,best brand and posi additive, how much to add . Thanks again James........

              90w gear oil and two small bottles of GM posi fluid.
