I've noticed a small delayed water leak when water is applied to the lower rubber molding of my 1966 conv. I've had the windshield and rubber moldings replaced when the car was restored. It may have had this leak all along, as I've kept the car stored and not had to wash it often. Can you inject some additional sealant, such as black silicone, between the windshield and the rubber molding? Any other suggestions?

Re: Sealing midyear windshield
Jack, I had a similar leak in my 66 convertible when I replaced the windshield and molding. I wouldn't use silicone around your car at all. It hates paint and if you ever have to repaint any part of your car, the silicone causes it to "fish-eye". My local auto parts store sells a windshield sealant that I have used. It works best if you have removed the stainless trim and then you can use something like a wooden popsicle stick or the plastic stick that windshield shops use to pull the windshield weatherstripping out a little bit. Then just lay a very thin bead of this sealant where the windshield is leaking. Use it sparingly and only in the areas that leak.- Top
