I am looking for the crankshaft and water pump pulleys for my 66 L-79, which currently has the wrong balancer and pulley configuration. I was surprised to find that the original crankshaft pulley, part number 3858533, is still available from GM, with a list price of $36.40. But, I am unsure what the part number of the water pump pulley is. I think it is 3788472, but according to the drawing in the AIM, it is a single groove pulley. I though it was a double groove, to accomadate the alternator belt and the water pump belt. Is this correct, and is it still available? If it isn't the one, what is, and is it available? Thanks in advance, Dan

Re: L-79 Pulley Set Up
Dan-----
Unless your car has A/C, the pulley that was originally used was GM #3770245. This pulley is still available from GM and is a 2 groove pulley for a set-up as you described. The current pulley is configured a little differently than the original, but it is a very minor difference. Also, many originals were phosphate finished and current SERVICE pullies are painted black. Not all originals were phosphate, though, and you can assume that yours was originally one of the ones painted black. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: L-79 Pulley Set Up
Dan, many people, including myself, have numerous questions about 1966 L79 water pump pulleys and the number and routing of the belts. The AIM is inconclusive. In order for the rest of us to get the maximum benefit from Joe Lucia's response to you, would you please confirm whether your car is (or was) equipped with air conditioning, power steering or AIR?
Thank you.- Top
