Still not sure if I have a problem or not for PVing my 79,
My question has to do with the dash gauge that seams to be a reading to the high side of the scale all the time( above 13 volts and just below the red section on the scale at 18 volts) I replaced the regulator in the alternator, no change, I even tried bolting on a rebuilt one just to see if there was any change and there wasn’t. I thought I found the problem on the printed board of the gauge cluster where it at one time it was repaired so I replaced it, still no change. I checked the out put of both my original alternator and the aftermarket one with a digital volt meter and both showed about 14.56 volts at the back of the alternator and about 14.25 at the battery. If I shut off the car
and check the dash gauge with key on and engine off it shows about 13-14 volts on the gauge.
My question to anyone with a 78/79 or with experience with gauges: is this a normal reading or is the the gauge reading off and is John Perkall (I am sorry if butchered his name)is he the go to guy for this kind of question. I don’t have John’s number so if anyone has it I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Dave L.
PS. Brian, if your reading this I hope you forget it before the third week of January….lol
