My restoration project,'58/sn 8490, has undercoating in the upper front fender areas that can be seen from under the dash - far left and right. It is primarily from the cove trim nuts to the crown of the fender. I haven't seen that area mentioned for sound deadener application. Original, or another previous owner's "good idea"?

Re: C 1 '58 undercoating , fender / dash area
Terry! I see your restoring the Corvette and it must have a nice paint job. If you ever plan to drive it after showing it off, before you undercoat the front fenders ,I glue a sheet of 1/8 rubber material to the under side of the fenders ( top area ) then add the undercoat, most people never realize it"s there. It's to protect my paint from rocks being kicked up by the tires. This stops those ugly star cracks apearing in your big dollar paint job. Just my opinion, because I drive my Corvettes and have never gotton paint cracks showing up in my fenders as many owners have.- Top

Re: C 1 '58 undercoating , fender / dash area
TERRY--i'm in the process of stripping my 58 vin # 8484, it's very close to your 58. I also, was concerned about the undercoating. When i removed the kick panels there was a fair amount of undercoating present. I had to dig some off to find & remove nuts holding side spears. The undercoating even extends upwards towards fender crown. I was sure this was factory, but not positive. I don't know why GM would undercoat these areas, however !!! Contact me and let's compare our "treasures" !! email: jkosemple@aol.com- Top
