Re: 64 Oil Filter Canister
Don----
The original oil filter canister for your engine was an AC Type "PM-16" which uses the AC PF-141 filter cartridge. This part was GM #5474535 and was discontinued years ago. It is approximately 7 inches long(6-13/16" to be exact). This canister did not use a decal; it was silk-screened in white with the various AC information. However, decals are available to simulate the original silk screened information. I have an NOS #5474535 in my collection which is VERY old. The center bolt on mine has an "AP" head marking, but that doesn't mean that the manufacturer represented by "AP" was the only supplier of the bolt. "M" was a common bolt headmark for 60s Chevrolets. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 64 Oil Filter Canister
Joe is correct, but it goes one step farther. I also have a NOS canister, but the bolt in mine has NO logo. Various experts have explained how this is "wrong", but seem to waffle a bit when I show them the AC box, with part #, that the canister came in.- Top

Yes, the thing that many folks seem to forget is that many "Corvette parts" were not unique to Corvettes. These oil filter cannisters were used on a wide variety of pre-1968 GM cars and for many years. GM probably thusly manufactured and sold millions of them. Given that fact, it is highly likely that several manufacturers would have supplied bolts. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
