Just installed the original irons on the 58 deck lid---with the added weight, the lid now won't stay up--I have adjusted the tension springs for maximum compression---(bottom & top nuts threaded all the way on the shafts). What else can be done about increasing the tension required to hold up the lid? Soft top lid stays up correctly.

What many owners do is to take a pieace of pipe 1 or 2in. long cut a opening on it's side so that you can push it on to the spring rod . That increases the tenion.
