Where do I begin to track the previous owners on my '66 roadster? I live in Florida and I bought the car from someone in Florida. He bought the car in Oklahoma 15 - 20 years ago, but doesn't remember the sellers name or even what town in Oklahoma. I looked on line at the Oklahoma Tax Commision Motor Vehicle Division and also the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles. Nothing looked like what I needed.

Re: C2 Owner History
Check FMVD for a copy of your previous owner's title - see if it has a blank titled Previous Title or some such which should take you back to Okla; then you ask Ok to search out that # and predecessors - don't forget to offer to pay in advance.- Top

Re: C2 Owner History
Chip,
I'm not sure if this will help or not, but you may want to check our Vehicle History Search page at the Corvette Action Center. From what I have been hearing lately, it's getting harder and harder to acquire past owner information through state DMVs, but it's always worth a shot. Good luck!

Re: C2 Owner History *Christmas Present*
Here is the best lead I can give anyone who is searching for owner history. DMV's will only provide so much, and usually not enough.
Check NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) they keep records on ALL vehicles, forever. If the car has any history such as a moving violation they will have a record. From that you can find previous owners, the original sales dealer, and states the car was owned in. You might even get lucky enough to get some names. They are VERY tight with information. BE CAREFUL if the car VIN comes up as a car they have been looking for you may be out of luck.
Keep us informed as to what happens and good luck- Top

Re: C2 Owner History
On a '67 I previously owned, I wrote a short note to the DMV of the state I knew the car had been registered in, with the VIN#, explaining I was restoring it and was interested in previous owners. They sent me back several years of previous registrations. They said they would only go back so many owners for f each inquiry, but were very accommodating. (This was over ten years ago, hopefully they are still as helpful).- Top

Re: C2 Owner History
I was able to obtain this level of ownership on my 66 427 back to 1971 in our AZ DMV system....but then the trail went cold at CA when I tried to track the 66-71 ownership. CA DMV told me they purge records that far back, but, with the comments on the NCIB per Clem, now I am wondering....at least they don't have it in their "normal" system access. My 67 I was able to track back 2 owners in Wisconsin, then the trail went try...Craig- Top

Re: C2 Owner History *Christmas Present*
My brother is a homicide detective and I asked him to contact the NICB, since he does so on a regular basis. I asked him to get me the information on my '67. He told me you need a court case number, a docket number and a pile of other information.
Submiting a request to the NICB for vehicle information under false pretenses is a felony. Needless to say, my own brother wouldn't do it for me.- Top
