    C2 / Original Options

Please forgive my ignorance, I am new to this. But, is there a way or place that can tell me what options originally came on my car from the serial number?
IE. original engine spec, transmission, rear, etc. It seems I have a number of parts from different specs. The intake is from a 350hp, the valve covers from a 300hp. The engine block is not original and I am not sure exactly what I have there. I have a block that is supposed to be the original. It has numbers on it that match a 350hp and my serial number. But I have my doubts it is the original. The car was built in June 66, The casting date on this engine is Oct 65. The engine date is June 7th I believe. My car should have been a late June car by the serial number.
    Can anyone offer help?
I am a bit skeptical as a lot of things the guy who sold it to me told me have turned out to be false.
    Thanks

Post what engine numbers you have. Do you know the numbers on your heads?

Re: C2, we need more information

TL, Put some photos of the engine pad and the transmission vin stamp on this site. If they are clear enough we can at least tell you if they appear typical/normal or not. Make sure there is no paint on it. Do not mechanically remove the paint. Please use chemical paint stripper. The casting date(Oct 65)is not normal.....what is the block casting number? Manifolds, valve covers and heads are often changed and can be located to make things correct but the block is needed to CORRECTLY restore.

I will give it a shot. I need to figure out how to do the picture thing. I have the camera but not the internet expertise. I just saw a thread on doing a picture so I will check out, thanks.

Re: C2, more info, if this works

OK. I hope I am doing this right.
Here are my numbers on this 66.

          VIN number 194676S124972
          Block cast no. 3858174
          Cast date code J 1 5
          Tran Tag number 3870354
I can't get a number of the rear. It is too rough.I have cleaned on it but can't make out any numbers. Of course I don't know what exactly I am looking for either. Except that it is supposed to be on the bottom ahead of the cover.
Attached id suppsed to be a picture of the block VIN. (if I did this right)
SO if anyone can help, great. Not that I won't have just as much fun with the car if I don't have the original block. But, incase I decide to sell it someday, I would like to be honest with the next owner.

I cant open the picture, but normally I would say that there is no way that a J-65 block would be in a 24000 serial number car. Then when I look at some survey dada there seems to be some strange things going on at that time frame. ie. #21944 is reported to have had an L 29 5. I cannot vouch for the validity of that claim though.
