the PF-454 isthe same old filter that the general has always used its just shorter (about 3" long) because if it were longer it would hit the exhaust pipes on the trucks that are directly underneath it. changing it is a real blast, you tip it sideways to get it out and you spill oil everwhere.
As far as I know, there is no new part number for the PF-25; it's still known as PF-25. GM probably wouldn't dare change that number. However, they MAY have changed the part to include the check valve. I'll have to check when I get a chance.
So after reading all the posts after mine....it does make sense it only matters in a non vertical position. Sounds like most PF35/1218 uses are in the traditional vertical mount, so it is worthless for these applications.
