71 Dashboard Problem

I have a 71 which I am fixing up to look great (not necessarily to be NCRS judge-able) I am going to re-paint all the dashboard, dash pad, etc.

My problem is that all is OK to paint but there is a crack on the speaker grill section of the dash pad. I would hate to go through the trouble (I assume it is a hassle) to put a new dash pad.

Any ides on how I can fix this? Should I go for the new dash pad? Is it difficult? Is it worth getting a dash pad cover?

If the damage bothers you I would replace it as I don't know of a way to fix it as it is very thin in the speaker area. Replacing a dash pad is on the easy side as Corvette repairs go.

Peter, we restored or fixed my son's 72 dash pad speaker grille. The fix cost me about three hours time and some black vinyl paint. The dash was out of the car, we removed the bad foam on the underside of the cracks (none of the speaker vinyl was missing), reinforced the underside area with silkscreen mesh and a two part spray ahesive, filled the area with expandable foam insulation, rebored approximately 25 speaker holes with a hot nail (from the top side), and vinyl dyed black.
