In the 1966 TIM manual it states that the licence plate bracket is "stamped to accept two white plastic nuts for licence tag mounting" Also, the AIM shows them as round to me. The ones I got from L.I. Corvette Supply are square, not round. Anyone know whats correct or where I can get the correct parts?
Kurt, in my copy of Peter Licastro's book "Birthplace of Legends" there is a excellent full-front photograph of a newly completed 66 undergoing the "water test" in the St. Louis factory. I have seen this photo appearing in other publications as well (probably in Noland Adams' book, if memory serves). The licence plate frame and the white plastic licence mounting nuts are clearly visible. Under a magnifying glass, these nuts appear square to me.
When I removed the licence frame on my 66, the plastic nuts I found there were very old and very brittle. I took them to be original, but who knows for sure. They were square too.
The square nuts are correct. By the way, if you purchase items from Long Island Corvette, they don't mind if you tell them you only want the part(s) if they are correct, such as headmarking on bolts, etc., they are very knowledgeable and accommodating.
Kurt - My '67 front license plate bracket is in-tact and on my workshop shelf since new. The two plastic inserts are square and white (although faded to 'dirty white' lo all these years.)
