    Different "091" Coils

My question reguards 091 coils 1962 thu 1964 were there two different coil, each looking the same except for the top of the coil around the base were the coil wire goes into. I have two "091" first one with NO square's at the base, the second is NOS (in old orange/white string top box)with square's near base. What I mean by base is were coil wire terminal is, between pos. and neg. post. Any help?

    Re: Different "091" Coils

Lucky you. The older one is the one without the 'squares' at the base of the high tension lead post. The 'squares' were added about the beginning of the '61 model year. If the one with the squares has little 'holes' adjacent to the pos & neg lead terminals, it is (approx.) pre '67 model year. Other teltale indications include the location of the embossed numbers on the case. In general, the higher they are, the older the coil is.
