While replacing the heater core, I found a connector in the console (just forward of the stick shift) that was disconnected bofore I got the car (73 convertible). I plugged it in and the seat belt warning system started working, however it buzzes all of the time unless in gear or the parking brake is engaged. It does this with the ignition key removed and with no weight on the seats. GM service manual does a good job of explaining how the system is supposed to function, but says little about trouble shooting. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: C-3 seatbelt warning system
If you remove the key and it still buzzes the problem is in the steering column and try shaking the switch when taking out the key sometimes this will make it stop. If the drivers door is open on a 73 and the key is on it will buzz without weight on the seat because the drivers seat has no switch in it.Lyle

Re: C-3 seatbelt warning system
The part about in gear is a question I need to know if it is a 4 speed or a turbo 400 and the switch in the transmission is for the TCS and I didn't think it affected the key buzzer. In a 4 speed it only makes contact in 4th gear. Need to know more about the in gear part .Lyle
