    60 wiper knob

I purchased a repro windshield wiper knob (with windshield washer option), but lost the new set screw before installing it!! I went to the hardward store and purchased a set screw with flat end. When I push the washer button, the wiper knob does not turn to the right as the button is pushed. I tried to use the original set screw, but it will not go into the repro. knob far enough, goes thru the plastic part, but not through the metal insert inside the knob. My original knob does not have the metal insert. Does the tip of the set screw need to be pointed to make the washer button function properly?

    Joe,

The set screw in the wiper switch /washer knob is pointed. When screwed in, this point makes contact in a groove on the wiper switch for moving the wiper switch cable in & out at the motor. The washer button is connected to a small rod that works the washer vacuum system. Far as I know. these two functions are not related.
