What is the procedure for disassembling the C1 ('57) style wiper transmission to allow replacement of the mounting bracket which goes around the body of the transmission? The inner, or pulley end of the assy must be removed, including the pulley housing. That end of the shaft is rolled, like a semi-tubular rivet. The outer end, which has the splined end for mounting the wiper arm, is staked. Which end provides access to remove the pulley and housing, presents the least potential for damage, and allows for correct re-assembly? What is the best procedure to follow? Thanks.

Re: C1 wiper transmission
Since no one else has responded to this, I will give it a brief shot. I have successfully disassembled transmissions by supporting the knurled knob that the wiper attaches to and tapping the center shaft with a punch. I have done this a couple of times and managed to get the knob back on and peened without damaging anything. That said, you're on your own. No warranty expressed or implied.- Top

Re: C1 wiper transmission
Thanks, Ed. That looked like maybe the easiest way, just wasn't sure how much the splined piece would take. Do you know of any similarly constructed cheap trans to practice on before I get into the real thing?- Top
