    66 numbers question

i have a 66 roadster(driver), it has correct casting numbers, build dates and serial numbers on the engine block and heads ,when i bought the car i thought it had a replacement transmission because there was no back up light switch on the trans which i believe was standard on all 66's, some one lent me noland adam's book and the casting numbers on the trans are for a 66 M20 or M21 trans(3885010), i don't believe these casting numbers were used for other years, is it possible that its the correct trans but the reverse switch was somehow removed, or could a replacement trans have been installed with 66 casting numbers, the rear end says AM 11-23-64, could this be the correct rear end as the car is a very early production 66, thanks

    Re: 66 numbers question

Trans casting number was independent of the switch, same switch was used on all '64-67 cars, if original, the vin number will be stamped on the side of the main case, near the intermediate bearing plate.
