    C-1 Steering Housing is LEAKING

My '62 steering housing appears to be leaking from the housing side cover (driver's side of housing). Could it be the housing side cover gasket? How tricky is it to remove side cover? (Engine is out). What type of lubricant is required to refill? Can the gasket be purchased at auto supply? Thanks for any help.

You can by removing the lash adjuster lock nut, then the housing side cover bolts , then useing a srew driver turn the lash adjuster bolt counter clock wise while holding the side housing and it will srew it self out from the housing. For the gasket you could easly make one or some rebuilder may sell you one.To Reset the pre-load read the service manual, you can take a masurment after removing the lock nut as to how fare the lash adjuster sticks out to get it close back to were it was.OOOOR you could just back the lash adjuster bolt counting your turns to clear it from the main housing so that you can add a gasket sealer between the two and put it back to gather.
