64 Muncie - update shift forks or not?

I just took my 64 muncie in for a rebuild. The rebuilder suggested installing the later type shift forks with the larger diameter stud for the shift lever attachment. Although this would be visible to a very alert judge, I am wondering if the update would be worth the few points. After all, GM didn't change their design because it had no merit. He also suggested putting in the later style synchros which are less prone to cracking.

What are your thoughts about the planned modifications? Are they worth the slight loss of originality, or should I just have it put back together the way it was?

    Thanks,

    Shane

Am I correct in assuming that when

everything is back together, it will take you TEN years to put on the the 12,000 miles that your car saw in its first year......tell him no and then wait for him to tell you he doesn't have a source for the original synchros.....

You also have to change the shift levers that bolt on the side of the trans. The early setup is fully compatable with the later improved synchro setup so there is really no reason to make the change except for full-bore dragracing applications.

Thanks for the input. I think you are correct, and will have him skip the larger shifter forks. Though I do intend to drive the car quite often, I don't think I should have any problems with breakage of the original type.
