    Idle Problems

I need some advice however it pertains to a 1961 Starfire Oldsmobile. I hope you don't mind the non-corvette post. My problem has to do with the car's inability to hold idle. Specificaly, it will start up and idle even though I have noticed that the idle is a bit rough. After I let it idle for a few minutes once I give her gas to back out of the garage the idle drops to below 500 rpm and the car dies. I can then start the car up again but the car just dies again. Up until this happened on New Year's day the car did not experience this problem and ran okay. I assume that the problem lies with either the carb or fuel pump. The carb is the orignal quadri-jet which has never been off the car for re-build as far as I know. Thanks for any advice and once agian sorry for the non-vette post. By the way, my dad bought this car new in June of 1961.

The Quadrajet did not exist until the late sixties. In any event, it is probably a sticky choke mechanism is the problem is only the cold idle.
