Is there a database/registry for me to find the whereabouts of a `69 Corvette Coupe if all I have is the serial number??? The car is or was a Lemans blue 427/400hp coupe. It was in the Chicago area at least until `73 or`74.

I don't know of any such data base, but asking here and on the other board may help. Have you tried the DMV in Springfield or your local police? How about the insurance companys. I think you could also try the search on a cars s/n for any accidents.

I once used a company called U.S. Trace. For a fee they will trace a Vin and give the current owner of the vehicle. I tried it last year and haven't used them since so I don't know if they are still around but its worth a shot. www.ustrace.com
Howard, As long as you have the vin and you can figure the last state the car was registered in, you just go to that state's DMV, pay a small fee and they will send all the info about the car's past history in that state, from the first document on record until the most recent. They usually only go back to 1980 or so ( since computer data started). Good luck.
