    Small Block Oil Pan

    I have a 327/350 hp corvette built in Early Feb.1965.
    Can anyone tell me if a big(6qrt)oil pan belongs to this car or is it a small (5qrt).

      Jim,

      The L79 350 hp has a 5 qt. pan indentified by a 10 1/2 inch lower sump.
      Vertical ribs are embossed into the side of the pan, 3 ribs on the left side and two ribs on the right. All ribs are approximately 1 1/2 inches high. The pan drain exits the rear with a thin, flat head 3/4 inch drain plug with a white nylon gasket.

          I believe that all 1965 L-79s used the "5 quart" oil pan. Originally, this pan was GM #3820000.

              It seems to me, at least, to depend

              in part on WHEN Power Steering becomes available to the 350 HP engine
              because with the BIG pan, no PS. There is a mid-year announcement in the Chevrolet Service News that announces that " PS is NOW available" with the 350HP, implying at least that it was NOT always so.
