C2- Replacing Dash and Engine Harnesses

I am going to purchase the new harnesses for my 67 big block. I am interested in members opinions regarding manufacturers. Both Lectric Limited and M&H Fabricators are about the same price. Any thoughts on pros and cons of both?

I don't know about M&H but I have just received my harness from Lectric Limited and it is very well constructed. I was impressed with it's quality

I replaced the engine and dash harness in my 67 coupe two years ago using Lectric Limited's harness. My only prior experience had been installing a new (factory)harness in a 1967 AMX many years ago. I was very pleased with the appearance and fit of the Lectric Limited harness. The only thing different from the original harness was the sockets for the dash bulbs which were plastic in the Lectric Limited harness and plated metal in the original harness.

        Think you'll find several differences:

        (1) Price: LL recognizes NCRS, advertizes in Driveline, and quite often has discounts or 'special' aimed at NCRS club members. M&H typically distributes their products (multi tier distribution) and has to price protect distributors, so don't expect any discounts to a qty 1 buyer....

        (2) Quality: Can't tell you how many 'botched' harness assy's we've received from LL at our shop over the years.... Having to pull a dash to R&R a defective wiring harness really 'makes your day' and spoils your profile.

        (3) Support: In my experience, it's hard to get someone on the phone to help at LL should you have problems. Each and every time, I've called M&H, there WAS a staff of on-hand support techs with lots of knowledge and concern. About half the time, my call got escalated to the company president WITHOUT my asking and heaven/earth got moved to fix whatever was wrong (FED EX overnight at their expense, Etc.)!!!!!

        (4) Durability: Not all of the components used to make factory original wiring harness' assembly's are still available (suppliers go out of business, this/that material is made technically obsolete by newer/better technology, government rules & regs come along requiring things to be different). One thing is the raw wire itself. Although this is typically wrapped as a bundle, there are places where discrete wires exit to connect to/serve this-that and become visible. If judges know what orignal(s) looked like, it's possible to discern differences.

But, not all differences are necessarily bad! M&H uses top draw wire. For grins sometime, take a blow torch and go roast a segment of the wires from the two sources. You just might find a substantial difference in flame retardency!!!! When you're driving a classic old car with 20 gal of explosive gasoline who's body is made from highly flammable fiberglass reinforced plastic, the thought of an electrical 'fire' is telling....

Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a commercial for M&H. I've had EXCELLENT results with the 'third guy' -- Eagle Products too. Plus, I'll readily admit I HAVE had prompt, no hassle, service from LL!
