    Identify this camshaft???

I got this camshaft along with my 62 fuelie project. It has no stamping on either end and the only number I can find is between a lobe and a bearing journal and it says 373609. There may be one more character after the 9, but if so, it's unreadable, even with a magnifying glass. The cam is obviously new/never installed and based on some other engine parts with the car I'd think the odds are that the person buying parts bought the right stuff, but I wouldn't use it without identification.

You are likely looking at an original "duntov" cam, the proper cam for a '62 Fueler. The casting number is 3736098. The "undecipherable" number is probably an eight. The location is consistant with the usual placement on the blank, and no other smallblock cam carries thqat casing number series.

I have a GM camshaft with that part #, however the casting # is quite clear as 3736098. This # is located to the rear of the 4th main bearing journal. There are also two embossed squares located 180 degrees of the part #. Also there is the following stamped just to the front of the same journal...GM16.
      Hope this helps.

i would guess it is a 097 because a lot of GM cams have a different cast # vs the part number and this i only 1 # off which is typical

Parts Books of that era call out 098

as the casting # for the 097 cam.

6098 is the correct casting number for the "097" Duntov cam; the two squares confirm it. The other cast number is a pattern number for the raw casting blank.
