    C3: Cloth bag for washers,etc for '73

While getting rid of my old university textbooks at my parents, I came across the original cloth bag that was tucked behind the seat of my shinny new 73.

It had parts for shiming up the seats (if I remember correctly)

I found 4 one inch washers and 2 bars about 5 inches long and just over an inch wide with a hole at each end.

I never used any of the stuff so it must be what was shipped from the factory.

Can anyone varify if this is the correct things that should be in this bag.

In any case,is this worth keeping?

Original shim bags, especially if they are in nice condition, are not seen very often. The original bags came with eight(8)round washers and four (4) shim plates. Seems that you must have done some adjusting on you car as you don't have a full complement.

      Thanks Dave,

I'm pretty sure that I never installed them. Do the washers go under the bumper stops between the seat cushion and the seat back? Where do the shims go??

I couldn't find any mention of these in the owners manual. I don't remember seeing any seperate instructions for their use.

Are you sure that I should have twice as many? These have been sitting in a box undisturbed for 30yrs now and bag and parts are in pristine condition.

        Steve,

I'm sure of the count unless 73 had a different count than 70-72. The round washers went under the stem for the rubber bumpers and the larger shims went under the plate that connects to the strap that releases when the button on the top/back of the seat is depressed. It is located between the two rubber bumpers.

73 had the same count 8 washers 4 shims one bag. I thought the washers went under the screws on the bottom not the rubber bumpers on the back. Steve you may find your missing parts installed as the dealer may have put them under the drivers seat. You will need them if you have your 73 judged NCRS either loose or installed.

I still have mine for my 70 although the bag is a little dirtier after spending 32 years in the glove box. Shortly after buying my 70 new I installed one washer under each of the large phillips headed bolts that mount at the back bottom of the seat. After the washers are installed the steel spacer is used to raise the center bracket so the seat will lock and not tilt forward without depressing the button at the back of the seat. All this is to adjust the seat back more upright according to the drivers perferance. I left my passenger seat unchanged.

Were these used on 69s and if so would the bag washers and shims be the same.

Yes, they were used on 69's. The bag contained the round washers that fit under the seat bumper on the seat bottom. The bag also contained 4 rectangular shims with 2 holes on each end. These shims were used under the catch fork on the seat bottom to raise it to correspond to the seat bumper height. Chuck

The rectangular pieces were different in 1968-69 as the seat part they went under was much smaller than those from 1970 on. And Lyle is correct, they go under the seat bumpers not on the seat back. I have always used them in my cars because I prefer to sit more upright in the seat.
