    C3 Posi Carriers

Is there a numerical reference for stamping on carrier unit to decifer between 3 series and 4 series.
I thought somewhere I read that the last 3 digits of number depicted one or the other.
    ie..#140 for series 3 and #170 or #177 for series 4.
    I've got a #175 and 'suspect' it is a 4 series.
    Your info greatly appreciated.

Jim -- The last 3 digits of a CASTING number on the "case", (that is what holds the diff gears and posi clutches and springs, and to which the ring gear bolts -- the "carier" is the outer housing that bolts to the frame removeable X-member) should be EDB 30175 for 4 - series Eaton positraction cases. The corresponding number for 3.70 and lower ratios is EDB 30117.

Wayne is right on the money, and there are later series 4 cases with the larger access window that supercede the 175 casting case....I have one in buildup now from Charlie Smith, I will check later today for the number....I suspect this is also the situation for the 3 series case but I cant' say for sure. This case is basically identical except the window on the side opposite the side you load the posi packs and cross gears is larger and shaped different and makes it a whole bunch easier to probe in for disassembly and assembly.....Craig
