    C2 Questions-door and smog

What is used to adhere the vapor barriers for a 1967 convertible and do they seal to the door panel or door frame ?

Does a 1967 smog system differ from say a 327 Corvette to a 327 Chevelle or Camaro ? I am mainly concerned about the pump and valves.

    Thanks.

    Mike----

The paper door vapor barriers were affixed to the door with strip sealant which was supplied to the factory in bulk. This was sort of a putty-like material that had a string in it. It was never available in SERVICE from GM, although I believe that a similar material can be purchased in some auto parts or hardware stores.

The diverter valve for 1967 Corvette small block applications was the same as that used for most other 1967 passenger car small block applications. However, the 67 AIR pump used for Corvettes was unique to the Corvette application. It differed significantly in configuration from the pumps used on other passenger cars. For ome thing, the pump outlet "T" fitting was attached to the bottom of the main casting of the pump. For all other models, the outlet tubes were attached to the rear plate of the pump.

Re the door vapor barriers; I just bought ( but haven't used yet) Cord weatherstrip available at any Lowes/Home Depot. Gray string like putty that stays soft and flexible and 90 ft for about $4.00. I tried Napa for "butyl tape" normally used on windshields but it looked to be too large a diameter.

By the way the replacemnt vapor barriers I bought were plastic. Assume paper was original.

The original vapor barriers were a one side asphalt film covered heavy brown paper. you could probably make suitable facsimiles from commercially available roofing "felt". The asphalt film covered side was installed against the door structure.

Try Paragon for "Kraft paper" style vapor barrier kit. They have it listed in there catalog. Part number 4721K. Phone # 800-882-4688.

          Hope this helps.
