Hi everyone,
First, thanks for all the help on the oil pan. I evened it out with a ball-peen hammer which worked great.
Now that I have the pan off I can get a good look at the rear main seal area. It doesn't appear to be leaking. I'm basing that on the fact that the small counterweight on the crankshaft between the seal area and the bellhousing doesn't appear to have any oil on it. The engine (69' 427) was rebuilt about 7 years and 5000 miles ago but the car has sat for 5 years. I've put about 1000 miles on it since then and it was leaking a lot of oil around the pan. I assumed the seal was leaking also. What should I be looking for to determine if the rear seal is leaking? Should I replace seal anyway since the car sat so long? I guess I'm a little hesitant since you have to remove the bearing cap but from reading the instructions it seems like it is a straightforward job.
Thanks in advance,
Jack Ottofaro
