    63-67 Headlight Motor Drive Gear

Joe or anyone....what is the GM part number of the pot metal drive gear inside the headlight motor assemblies? I am refurbishing a motor and was wondering if this gear is still in the parts system...LI Corvette has repros for $25, and original GM for $58, but if it still exists I would like to order today through my parts buddy...I am not home and don't have access to my parts books...thx!...Craig

I wouldn't bother paying for GM original parts on this item because it's a cheaply made pot metal gear that doesn't hold up well.

Mike - I know it is a weak pot metal gear, I think the repro is pretty much the same. I was looking for the handiest and quickest source, but didn't want to pay the supplier markups....thx, Craig

Gotcha - you can also try repositioning the gear so that the damaged area doesn't mesh ... only about 2/3 of the gear is used.

Mike - thx for the tip, Bill Clupper also mentioned it in the other thread I started above with the original P/N. I was familiar with that tip from a BG class. I called Steve Hack today (Eastern Corvettes) who I took the BG class from and he indicated he had used the repro gears for a period of time, but had some returns with stipped gears and went back to the GM gears, which he has not had any returns....so maybe the GM gears are somewhat sturdier. I think they are designed to go out first to protect the motor and worm gear in the assembly...Craig
