    PERFECT SCORE

I was watching the B-J auction last night and a 53 or 54, 55 Vette came up for auction I forget the year, but it did give us(NCRS) some very good press.

Anyway, they were rattling off all the awards the car had achieved and in particular the 95% rating the NCRS had bestowed upon it. As the car looked so much nicer than the one I have sitting in the garage and the fact I am a new member, it occurred to me to ask this question. Deleting the survivor award, how many NCRS cars have achieved 100% in their points rating? I am deleting the survivor award because I tend to think it would be achievable with a barn find, but when someone restores a car I would think it is almost impossible to gain a 100%. Is there a list of these cars somewhere (100 percenters) assuming that there are a few? Pictures?

    thanks

    Re: PERFECT SCORE

I don't know the answer to your question, and will be interested in seeing a response from those that do, but it's difficult to imagine that a car would score 100 percent in terms of originality AND condition. Certainly one or the other is attainable in restoration, but it seems that both would be virtually impossible, especially on older cars.

      Trivia

At NCRS cars compete against our standards and NOT against each other. We have no such thing as 'Best of Show' award and this is done intentionally to foster harmony. In fact, club rules (NCRS Judging Reference Manual -- the 'white book') contain a proviso PROHIBITING members from advertizing their Flight judging scores!!!!!!!

We 'lump' similar cars into award areas (3rd Flight, 2nd Flight, Top Flight) and we really don't care about minor differences between car/owner. A Top Flight is a Top Flight regardless of whether the car 'squeaked by' with a 94.1% score or 'maxed out' with 99.9% score!

Plus, NCRS has a policy of encouraging owners to put their cars on the road, use/enjoy them, and bascially 'show the colors'. To this end, we do something unique....we provide a milage drive 'bonus' to compensate those owners who risk wear & tear (condition point loss) when they actually drive their Corvettes to a club meet.

This means a Flight award (and actual score) is comprised of 'car' content as well as 'owner' participation content. It's possible to increase a given Corvette's base score up to TEN PERCENT by simply putting gas in the tank and driving it!!!!!!!

This said, the actual Flight score becomes less meaningful until one sits down and examines the real McCoy Flight Score sheets. At NCRS, since we encourage owners/members to improve upon their restoration efforts, each judging event is a new day and we start from scratch, without 'memory', of how a given car fared the last time it was judged. To this end, ONLY the owner of the Corvette (and the Tabulations team at the event) see the actual score sheet and only the owner retains it. NCRS National archieves only summary information of specific judgings (overall score in Operations, Interior, Exterior, Mechanical and Chassis) and we do not have/do not care to have specific 'blow by blow' data on how/what was 'right' or 'wrong' with a given car.

Last, given the milage driven bonus in our system, it IS possible for a Corvette to score ABOVE 100%... Therefore, 100% is NOT the upper asymptote for Flight scores!

        Re: Trivia

Well, now that you have said all of that, can you answer the question? Has any car received a perfect score of 100,(in the award they sought through the NCRS)?

        YES/NO?

This is a simple straight forward question, with no, I repeat, no, hidden agenda attached.

No lists, no pic's, fine. Is there any owners out there reading this that can say they received 100 points? Use my personal e-mail to reply if this is a no-no for the site and the NCRS. I promise your secret is safe with me. No flame here, I am just really curious, as I stated earlier.

          Re: PERFECT SCORE

In my years of judging, I have never given nor seen a perfect score by any car. As Jack mentioned, the mileage bonus can put some over 100%, it can also pull a 90% score to Top Flight.

            Gregg,

I highly doubt that any have had a "net" score of all 100% of the points. I know of at least one that got close, though. Cars at 99% have been judged.

On the flip side, realize that most Corvettes on the dealer's showroom floor 30+ years ago would not have scored that high. Whether that's a flaw of our judging system or not I'll let you decide. I've judged cars myself with very few miles on them which were virtually showroom new (i.e. not restored cars), but weren't "perfect."

              Re: PERFECT SCORE *TL*

The answer to your question is not a simple yes or no. Our judging system is a 4500-point system. Each car starts the day with 4500-points. Deductions are made based on originality, condition and function. Our awards are based on a percentage of the final score and we do not round the scores up. So you loose 1 point out of 4500 you have a “99.9” car. Has there ever been a perfect net score, 4500 out of 4500? No not at a Regional or National level, there might have been a Chapter meet. Net scores are increased with driving points. Many cars have scored over “100” with driving points and those driving points do affect the award received a car that scored “91” net if driven the proper distance could achieve a perfect score of “100”, but it would not be a net score and Yes there are many of them.

Thanks Roy, Once again, I had no hidden agenda in asking this question, I was just, simply curious. I am relatively new to all the judging, what, when, and how to. But, it just struck me funny that the car I mentioned, only received a 95% rating. I am sure that for many reasons and variables, the car was without a doubt judged correctly. There was never any question on my part of the society and/or it's judging capability or rational. I was just taken back and maybe a little too caught up into all the glitz of the auction, that I had to ask , If this one looks like that, holy cow, what does a 100% car look like?

So, thanks to all whom responded and their input here. I am just trying to get involved and become more knowledgeable.

it's very possible that a PERFECT SCORE car

(if there was such a thing) would look 'worse' to the casual observer than a 95 point car- the reason being that NCRS Flight judging deducts points for over-restoration. It could be that the 95 point car you saw got docked points for having perfect paint, perfect chrome, perfect whatever. Over restoration is just as big a deduct as under restoration!
