    1965 Gauge Cluster Housing

I have a 65 Roadster I am restoring and have just taken the Gauge Cluster out to rebuild it. Most gauges work fine, just need cleaning and some touch up paint. The big problem is my cluster housing is broken. The corner below the wiper switch is missing so I need a new housing. From everything I can find written, it appears that the housing is the same from 63 - 67, is that correct? Also the speedometer works fine, but the odometer does not. Is there a common cause I should look for? I have seen the odometer drive gear available from most of the catalogs, and one offers a three piece NOS gear set.

    Thank you,

    george

The 63 cluster is a one year only part. The steering column in a 63 sits higher then 64-67. The cut out for the column is deeper. But 64-67 should be the same.

      George:

When you tear down the speedo, obviously you'll see the problem. Drive gearsets are available from L.I Corvette Supply, Chicago Corvette, Dr.Rebuild, etc. If you need your gauge faces reconditioned, I strongly recommend Corvette Instrument Service in Palm Beach Gardens,Fl. Roger Scott does excellent work, can recondition the entire cluster if you don't care to, and can locate any hard to find "odds and ends" for you. He can be reached at (561)627-9345.

C.I.S. did a beautiful job on the restoration of my '65s instrument cluster, and for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended. Mark

George --- there are many variations on '64 -'67 cluster housings, mostly on the bottom edge (holes and cut-outs), and depending on whether the car has air conditioning or not, coupe or convert. And in '67 the cable pulls for the kick pads were transferred to the(radio) side panels. Best to describe in detail the bottom side, so members can say whether something's missing.

            Wayne,
Thanks very much to you and all others who have posted responses. To further describe my problem, I have a non-air 1965 car. The bottom edge on the left of the steering colum has two cutouts, and the broken/missing piece is from the right hand side of the right cutout over to the steering column recess. The cutout to the far left is for the headlight open/close switch, I read somewhere what the right one is for but can not recall at the moment something to do with A/C I think.

            Thanks again,

            George

Right cutout is for the coupe's rear vent blower switch. It exists on all models, but is unused in the convertible. The small holes next to it should not be threaded.

                Joe,

Thanks for your response, that makes sense.
