Getting ready to have my compressor rebuilt and I don't believe my compressor Fitting-muffler is correct for a 66 small block. Doesn't look like the sketch in the assembly manual. Mine has the 2 schradder fittings at 180 degrees, 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock so to speak. Any info on what is correct would be helpfull or a jpeg photo. Thanks.

Re: C2 66 Air conditioner
Randy - The '66 Corvette AIM UPC C60 Sheet D7 drawing appears to be a carry over from the '63 and '64 AIMs. Your muffler assembly might well be original for your '66 depending on when it was build. It sounds like from your short description with the 2 opposite valves that it might be a '65 muffler assembly, but if it's an early car, it could well be. The '66 and '67 muffler assembly had only one valve out the side. The '65 thru '67 C60 AC aluminium mufflers has Z-W stamped in the end of the muffler can. Pete- Top

Re: C2 66 Air conditioner
Peter,
Thanks for the info. Yes, I was usung the AIM C60 Pg D7 as the reference muffler assembly. Mine does have the Z-W stamped on the end of the can. The build date for my car is Feb 66 so my best guess is the muffler assembly is a 65. Do you know of a good source for the mid year AC parts? Corvette Central is the only vendor I have found that lists the muffler assembly.- Top

Re: C2 66 Air conditioner
Randy - From your information, it appears to be as you mentioned a '65 (or later '64) AC mufler configuration. My experience has been that none of the current Corvette parts suppliers manufacture a "correct" muffler and finding a "correct" '66 muffler will be pretty difficult or quite pricey because it also fits a '67 and we all know how many $$$$$$$$$ '67 parts are. The only configuration difference is the 2 valves on the '64 and '65 versus one valve on the '66-'67; so keep looking but if the one you have works stick with it. Pete- Top

Re: C2 66 Air conditioner
Randy-
Can anyone say for sure whether or not any 66's came with 65 style mufflers?
My 66'BB AC coupe's muffler system is also a '65 style, w/2valves and ZW markings. It's a March 4 build date car, #15521, with misc. engine parts dated from October fwd. A hose on the muffler hoses is dated 9/65 in yellow ink stamping. I've had the car only 2 years, but it's a 52k original mile car. Sure would like more info to know if this is correct.- Top

Re: C2 66 Air conditioner
Dan/Randy - I'll do some checking on the '66 AC cars I know of and see what AC muffler configuration they have along with the VINs. Since the '64-'65 AC muffler would work fine, it's possible that they used up the surplus stock before switching over. If both of you don't mind, E-mail me so I can contact you in the future when I come up with the info. Pete- Top
