    Judging Question: Battery

Hi, All. Well, I'm going to have my 82 judged at St Louis, and from the Chapter meet I found I lost 30 points due to a replacement Delco battery. Has anyone heard of a correct replacement for an 82? Also, the clamp and bolt don't have a ridge to capture the current battery, is it OK to just have the clamp installed even though it serves no function with my battery?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!!

    Rich--
I went through the same scenario with an 82 at the Florida Regional last year except I lost 50 points because my replacement battery was not a Delco. I was told by the judges that the best I could do was get a Delco replacement and save a few deduction points as apparently you did. They advised me original replacements are not available. A friend of mine has been diligently searching for the same battery, and the last I heard he was not having any luck. Maybe someone out there can help. Chuck

      Re: Judging Question: Battery

The battery only carries 25 originality points, and the Standard Deduction Tables indicate a 50% deduct for a correctly-sized Delco replacement; wonder why you lost 30 points?

Not sure about the 30 points, but glad I had the Delco!!! And I'm not about to snivle about 5 points. Guess I'll keep my eyes out here, and the usual catalogs in the future. And spend a little more time getting the wax out of the tail light letters! It just seemed an easy way to get a load of points with little elbow grease.

Oh, well..... Thanks for the responses.

          Hum....

My copy of the '78-82 Flight Score sheet (Revised 2/2000) provides 30 originality points and 10 condition points for the battery. Standard Deduct table provides:

10% deduct for correct appearing reproduction lacking plant/date code marks

30% deduct for reproduction batteries differing from original in minor detail

50% deduct for correct size/correct post configuration Delco service replacement

          100% deduct for all others.
