    Who Cares? Exactly the point!

Nobody should Care what you drive! We should all drive the car WE like without a care in the world about what others like. Our only limitation should be the wife and our wallet. If our dream turns into an appreciating asset, all the better. I have the cars I have because "I" like to "DRIVE" them.

We all own our cars for different reasons that are perfectly logical in our own little world. Enjoy your car for the reason YOU purchased the car. Just realize the other person who has something you think is REALLY stupid may just be thinking the same of you!

Even in the Fast and the Furious

...the "play" car owned by the character portrayed by Vin Diesel was a vintage Dodge Charger. Given how this movie was focused at the Ricer crowd, the fact that this car was in the movie is a good indication that vintage muscle cars are still admired by 20 somethings.

From what I recall the Charger dusted the Ricer it was racing until it was wrecked!

Re: Even in the Fast and the Furious

Im wondering what exactly makes someone a kid??? what is the prerequisites?? age ?? =0)
I bought my 2002 EB Z06 when I was 27 the day before my 28th birthday. That was April 28th of 2002, I traded in my 89 Corvette Convertible that I bought while I was stationed in Okinawa Japan from November 1998 March 2002 Now if you guys want to talk about getting looks how's about driving a Corvette in the land where RICE originates from!!! It was very nice I almost always caused a car accident daily from people doing double takes staring for a long time this was locals Japanese and the Americans that were stationed there!

I bought my first corvette when I was 21 yrs old and a lance corporal in the marines a 1987, the 2nd one was the 1989 then my 1990 ZR-1 then the 2002 Z06 which was a very fun car very nice and all the comforts were great! this car was also very fast
Now the Z06 is gone, I bought a truck for my wife and now I picked up my dream car a chrome bumper BB shark!

I am US Marine with 9 years active duty I make roughly 30K a year well close to that!!!
Anyway if I can afford one anyone can its all about what you want to own drive and the life style you want to live!

there will always be at least one corvette in my garage

I plan on a Ferrari someday two maybe a 308.

Re: Even in the Fast and the Furious

Well, you might start referring to someone as a "kid" when people start calling you "sir" (outside of the military).

In my opinion its more mind than age although in my opinion kids are 25 and under. Of course this changes as you get older.

I myself see nothing wrong with the ricers that receive scorn from many people. Tricked up looking Hondas, Focuses, etc is no different than when I was growing up and some guys had 6 cylinder Novas, Mustangs etc. They would jack up the rear, put fat tires on it with Cragers and perhaps add a Thrush glass pack muffler, etc. It was kind of silly but they didn't have the money for the hi-po models and it made them happy. Heck, this treatment was sometimes applied to four door sedans and cars with base V8 engines.

I am impressed with what many manufacturers can squeeze out of these ricer engines.

The fact that you love Corvettes is great. However, the demographics for a new Corvette buyer (or a buyer of Vintage Vettes) is definitely in the Baby Boomer generation or older. The only way to change this is to re-think the Corvette with perhaps it expanding to a car line. I know this could freak people out but I never thought I would see a Porche SUV. The Cayenne is being watched closely. If it is successful, expect at least serious consideration for expanding the product line of the Corvette name. After all, the older crowd will eventually die off or not want a two seater any longer. New customers need to be in the pipeline.

With storm clouds on the horizon for the US, my thoughts are with you and the other men and women in uniform that serve our country. You have my respect and support.

Re: Even in the Fast and the Furious

                  Mike,
                  I appreciate your words......
I know that it is the older generation that (can) afford the new corvettes as well as the mid years... Of course there will be those individuals like myself and many others who will put every penny they can muster So that they are in the corvette they chose to own and drive.

And as for me being military no one calls me sir its Staff Sergeant so that still hasn't happened to me yet hahaha

As I sit here off the coast of The United Arab Emirates as a part of the only Marine Corps Expeditionary Unit in the region, I too wonder what is in our future here in the Persian Gulf, and I hope that you ALL try not to worry about what the corvette's you own will put into your pockets but what they put into your hearts!

now I order you to go out there and drive them, That is if you can I know it is snowing in North Carolina so anyone south of there go out and have some fun in your corvette!

Re: Even in the Fast and the Furious

We missed the snow here in northern Virginia. It stayed just south in the Carolinas and sothern Virginia.

Its a nice day but very cold. A firend of mine is down in Key West. He said it was 47F the other evening. Very cold for Key West.

Might get some time to drive the Vette at lunch.

You make sure you get your job done safely over there and get back to drive yours as well!

Can you send a picture of your car? I would like to see it. I have a web site with some photos of my car. Its listed under my profile.

                    Mike

Re: Even in the Fast and the Furious

I've spent quite a few hours of my off time working on my daughter's 93 Mazda MX-3. The easy way to more horses with one of these is the old fashioned way: an engine swap! Out with the tired anemic 1.8L V-6, in with the junkyard fresh 200Hp J-spec 2.5L V-6!

I received an education about modern engine systems while doing this and I have a lot of respect for the ricers that can make these little displacement engines run.

Old vettes are cool but so are crotch rockets and modified imports.
