Re: RADIO REPAIR
Yes! Expect a Rolls Royce quality job! Instead of simply finding 'the problem' and fixing it, Charlie does a COMPLETE restoration. This includes pulling the main chassis board, running it through a vapor degreaser machine to recover factory fresh cleanliness, GUTTING it of ALL the discrete components known to age/change value (E.g. wax-foil and mica capacitors)and replacing them with equivalent modern technology components with rock-solid anti-aging characteristics (E.g. poly propeleyne capacitors). Then, Charlie adds all the Delco Remy circuit fixes/updates that were documented over time for that revision circuit board.
He does the same attention to detail work in the mechanical tuner section (VITAL for WonderBar sets where the lion's share of signal seek functionality is MECHANICAL vs. electronic). The set is re-assembled and exercised during burn-in (approximately one-week of operational 'soak'). I don't think there's anyone in the world who does what Charlie does!!!!
Now, IF your set needs fresh front panel cosmetics, for extra cost Charlie will install a reproduction 'kit' for you. There ARE minor differences between the original face plate pieces (bezel, WB seek knob, station pre-set knobs) and the repro items. Some of these differences can only be seen with the radio out of the dash. Other's CAN be detected by savvy interior judges using inspection mirror, flash light and close scrutiny...depends on the judge and his/her knowledge.
You can ask Charlie to pull the key pieces (bezel & seek/pre-set knobs) trot them down to your local plating shop who does chrome on pot metal work (MANY chrome shops will NOT touch pot metal jobs, but some specialize and will do excellent work there on a 'best efforts' basis) and have the original pieces cleaned, polished and replated to preserve this aspect of factory authenticity. Works out, the cost is about a wash (you re-plate original pieces vs. buy repro) in my experience.
BTW, with your caps lock on, your post indicates emphasis.... Says you're YELLING at us. Gotta believe this isn't what you intended!- Top
