Re: Headlight cover/door

The cover for the headlight doors for 68-82 Corvettes was not a seperate piece. It was part of a complete assembly which GM refers to as a HOUSING. It is not really practical to try to replace only the cover component of the housing since the contour of the piece could be compromised in the process. Plus, the only way to get a cover would be to salvage one from a used housing assembly; the cover was never available from GM as a seperate piece and is not available seperately from any reproduction source.
Now some bad news: most 68 Corvettes used a housing which was unique to 68 Corvettes. That's why the catalogs don't include the 68 in the year range for the other housings. Later 68 Corvettes, as well as all 69-82, use a housing which is different. Actually, the primary (but not the only) difference is the dimension of the cover. The 69-82 cover is 10" from the forward edge to the trailing edge of the cover. My recollection is that the 68 cover is about 1/2", or so, less than this. So, you'll need to measure yours to see which ones you have. Likely, it will be the "short" ones.
The 69-82 housings have been GM-discontinued for several years, but are available in reproduction and the reproductions are excellent. Unfortunately, the 68-only housings have been GM discontinued for amny years and are not reproduced. You may be able to obtain used examples from the source listed by another responder. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
