Re: color of paint for red 1967 interior
Hi! Wayne
Could you please explain the paint process for the interior? My research leads me to believe that the paint was the same sheen level as the exterior and in some cases the same lacquer. The major difference was that the exterior was rubbed to a gloss finish and the interior was not.
The reason for the lower sheen was that they wanted to keep the gloss down to prevent reflection glare of the sunlight. I am currently in the process of repainting my saddle 65 interior components with the correct # PPG lacquer.
Thanks for any advice!

Re: color of paint for red 1967 interior
The various trim parts in the interior in general are not the same as an exterior color, at least with most colors in most places. There are some exceptioons, Black ,white, and some forms of other colors, red being one of them. The lower trim over the dash pads under the windshield is a very low gloss. The center dash panel and speaker grille is also a low gloss, but sometimes it might not look quite as low as the trim, but close. This is done to reduce glare. While some of these colors may be basicly the same as the base exteror colors, most have their own specific formulas. Some interior colors have no match in exterior colors. ie. med, b blue, saddle, Green, Teal. Certain other trim pieces that are not subject to glare are treated with the 60% gloss (semi-gloss), this would be most everything that is not in the upper dash area. That said, red is one of those that the 60% formula is the same as the exterior color rally red. So they consider and unbuffed form of the exterior the equivalent of semi-gloss. I once had a judge at a major regional meet that insisted that my bright blue interior, which was completely and totally original, was not all the same color and promptly counted off a major point deduction. No amount of explaining would convince him that they were a mixture of different types of finishes and colors. He and I butted heads like two mountain goats, and both of us are probably still sore about it. Thankfully a knowledgeable head judge was consulted. The problem is that most of us have looked at too many restored examples and not enough original ones. The books say that 65 red and 67 red are the same formulas.- Top

Thanks Wayne!
The saddle interior on my 65 was original, but in poor condition. The paint on some of the interior parts was so thin that you could almost see the fiberglass telegraphing through the coverage. All interior parts seem to have a low sheen with the dash area having very good coverage causing a different look or sheen as you described.
Thanks for the post, should help many that are restoring their interiors!
