I'm in need of a solution to the famous "stripped teeth on the old window regulator trick". I understand they are not avalible from GM and a used one typically not much of a solution. I have seen replacement gears in some of the vendors catalogs, but the spring is wound around a stud that holds it all together. I've been told that some people will weld a bead of weld onto the worn tooth then file down to size. Any comments on the above? Success or failure stories? Thanks!!!

Re: C1 - 61 Window Regulator
Jim,
The replacement gear segment that is sold by most of the vendors is the best fix. The replacement part is only a 1/2 round segment and is easy to replace. You grind off the riveted studs that hold the old one on and put the new one on and put a little weld on top of the studs to hold it on.

Jim.....
I replaced my 61' with new window regulators with no problem, except one post was completely woren out. I machined a new one which worked great. I now see were you can buy this post from paragon. Take care when rewinding the spring for the new teeth may be sharpe and can nick you.- Top

Re: C1 - 61 Window Regulator
Thanks for the note. I just got a new (nos or repo?) one from Dr. Rebuild, works fine. I looked at gear transplant, and welding, but took the easy $$$ way out. I also replaced the roller on the window frame with a roller repair kit (remove the old inr insert the new roller and stud then peen it over). Looking forward to actually rolling down the window, instead of pushing on it!!!- Top
