I just pulled the cam out of my engine ('64 327) and am trying to identify it. On the end of the cam I see "112" and "M373" or "M3738" (the 8 is very faint and I may be imagining it's really a number). On the cast surface between the lobes I see USA at one place, and C2 and D2 in another. Any one have any ideas? Thanks.

Re: C2 Cam ID
Mark,
I went to the garage and looked at the cam out of my 64 Corvette 250 HP engine. It has an idendification number cast into it between the lobe and the second "main bearing" surface from the rear of the engine. This number correctly corresponds to the identification number given in the January 1964 GM parts catalog. The number is for all but "special high reformance and fuel injection". It is # 3732798. The number given for "special high performance and fuel injection" is #3849347. GM1 is also on the cam as well as the date code K18, Which is for Nov. 18, 1963, as my car is an early December car. I would suspect that if your cam doesn't have any such markings that it may not be the original cam.
I hope this helps, Phil- Top

Re: C2 Cam ID
It's not a GM cam - all factory cams have at least the last four digits of the casting number on the as-cast surface between the lobes; the "M" prefix on the number might indicate that it's a Melling replacement cam.- Top
