C3 calipers

Our local chapter is planning to do a tech session on a caliper rebuild this winter. My 68 was the candidate. When I pulled the fronts I found them to be SSBC replacements. I spent a couple days at the Florida regional looking for cores but a rebuilder bought up all the cores before I could find a set and would not sell any cores unless they re-sleeved them first.

I am looking for both a left and right front caliper casting #5452273 outer and #5452270 inner. Anyone have a suggestions wher I could pick up a set for our tech session. I would prefer to have cores that were not SS sleeved.

The problem you will find is that most "cores" have been sleeved previously. Sleeved calipers will still leak over time as the rubber seals deteriorate.

In our shop, we average 2-3 of the calipers in "each set" returned as cores are already sleeved. Generally there is only 1 or 2 leakers in a a set of 4 but most people replace the set. That does not include the small amount that are returned under warranty. Most people do not own their Corvette long enough for the calipers to leak and therefore most purchases of calipers are for leakers on cars they have just purchased or have not had in their posession very long.

Always remember to replace the rubber brake line hoses. They are cheap and probably need replacement anyway.
