Different 'depth' power steering pulley? 71SB

I am trying to get my power steering pulley to line up with the crank shaft (two belt pulley) and water pump (two belt pulley) pulleys and it is about a half a belts width off (to far forward). The problem is that there is no front-rear adjustment and the only way to move rearward is to grind on the mount and make it thinner (and weaker). I cant get the pulley to go ANY futher onto the pump. It is a cast LT1 style pulley. I am wondering if the other style stamped steel pulley is 'deeper' than the one I have. By 'deeper' I mean of course that were you to lay both types flat on the ground, is one taller than the other?

Peviously I spaced the crank and water pump pulley to match the power steering pump, but that seem like a bit of a hack to me. The crank and the water pump pulleys line up perfectly. Haven't yet tried the alternator, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

    Thanks
    Chris

I'm not at all familiar with the 71, but I suspect you need an additional stamped sheet metal crankshaft pulley for your power steering car... the correct one would be stamped 3751232.

      Chris and Wayne------

Chris didn't mention which 1971 small block he has although he mentions that he's using an "LT-1 style cast pulley". I don't know if this means that the car is an LT-1, or not. In either case, I don't think that the add-on crank pulley was used for 1971 on either engine, although this add-on pulley is otherwise very common on Corvettes of the period.

For base engine 1971s, I believe that the power steering pulley was the stamped steel pulley of GM #3770509. For LT-1s, the pulley was the cast iron GM #3834720. One of these should work. However, if for some reason, neither does, then try the big block pulley, GM #3878245. I think that this pulley was used on some small block applications regardless of what GM says.

These power steering pump pulley applications are among the most confusing of all Corvette pullies.
