    73 TIRE QUESTION

The replacement tire for my car is P225-70-15. As I have the original FIRESTONE spare tire (raised white letter), I was considering FIRESTONE FIREHAWKS INDY 500, as these are raised white lettered tires and would keep everything uniform and repro's are just not in my wallet range.

On the other hand I was considering buying another brand replacement tire (GOODYEAR). Now, does this matter at time of judging. If I keep the same MFGR. will this help or not, being that they are service replacements? I would like to think so? Will I receive at least 60% or more with the FIRESTONES?

Your spare is ok and you could use Firestone or Good year with white letters about the size of your original. They may not make them, also the Gr 70 15 is not made in a repo and never has been as far as I know. The judging referance manual spells out the deduction but one must pick where the tire being judged fits. I have lost 60% with Goodyear ST 225-70 r 15's a few years ago and don't have the latest manual to see if it has any changes under tires. If their was a repo like for 72's and older they don't lose many points and are not near has high priced as old spares.

      Lyle,

OK, So, if I go with the newer FIRESTONE OR GOODYEAR "new" service replacements it will not matter? I am at a loss when you say it depends on where it sits (judging). Please explain.

Lets say I go with the Firestones keeping it all uniform to the original spare. Since they will be "new" service replacements will I gain more points with them as opposed to going with a diffrent brand name?

Or, if they are whatever brand name new service replacements, will I receive a maximum point award/deduct, and if so how much? My JG does not have point specific for anything-----bummer!

        Re: 73 TIRE QUESTION

Gregg There is an NCRS Corvette Judging Reference Manual that gives the % deduction for tires ,battery and glass. Each % deduction 10-20-30-40-60 ect. .has a description as to the difference from a factory original tire. As a judge you must see where the tires you are judging fits the description.(not sits) Goodyear and Firestone are the two brands used in 73 and will get the most points. I would get the one that has solid letters as close to the size of your orginal spare. The spare need not match if orginal.

If you're concerned about judging and points loss is the same go with the Firesteone Firehawk PV41, 225/70R-15. This is a V-rated "police pursuit tire" and will provide better performance than some white letter S-rated cosmetic performance tire. Goodyear and General also offer police pursuit tires.
