    C3 Wheel-well black-out question

I did some reading on the black-out process in the archives and there are some threads regarding the engine compartment... Can anyone comment on the wheel wells and what is generally an acceptable black-out process... and material? Especially from the point of view of having a brand new clip with virgin glass and a recently painted frame... Is "Blitz Black" commonly used in this area...? What about undercoating... was any applied at the factory?

    Thanks

From my experience your 69 should have minimal undercoat coverage at the inner fender tops only app;ied in a "fan" motion. The rubber dust skirts were in place and recieved sparse overspary . I use Blitz or Krylon #1613
    69 BBs are the best...
    Good luck

      Jer,

Ditto on the 69 BB... So, enlighten me further... Blitz black the skirts (front, side, black) with dust shields in place... followed by a light coat of undercoating on glass and frame... with minimal attention to the top !?

Just the oppsite, the tops of the fenders, (underside) were undercoated as I understand to cushion the body from stone inpact and, hence decrease the potential paint damage from debris thrown from tires hitting the underside of the fender tops....did I say that right
No undercoat present on the frame.

          Jerry,

You said it perfectly... was my guess reguarding the Blitz Black correct?

          Thanks again

I stood outside the paint room door in 1976 and watched them do it. The guy made a back and forth swipe with a wide fan paint gun. It took all of two seconds.

Undercoat first, then black-out operation followed.

                Wayne,

Was the body off the car at this point?

Yes, it was on the cart that they built it on. They used these to move the body around the plant. Just the body was in the paint room, the frame and body came together much later.

Interesting topic...I was doing some reading and caught a picture of a C3 on what is called the jig (cart) on rails. It shows the birdcage and panels being assembled to it. They would move the bodies around the factory on these jigs until mated with chassis.
