C1 Conv. top deck lid latches!! Quality

One of my deck lid latches is not holding the conv. top down.It pops up when driving!
When I examined it I noticed the hinge mechanism has bent and is made of a lighter gauge steel then the other side which is holding. I'm assuming the latch that holds is an original.

Has anyone seen this before?? Are the originals thicker then reproductions???

I dont have the answer to your question, but I know who would. John Kennedy is a NCRS interior judge. He owns and operates the House of Custom upholstry and convertable top shop. He owns Corvette 46, and specializes in C1 tops.

Peter. I own a 55 and both of my latches will not stay fastened. It could be because my top is too tight or maybe it is because the saw teeth on either the top latch or the deck latch is worn. Perhaps there is a C1 restorer out there who knows the answer to this latch problem.
