    1978 Pacecar

I recently purchased a 78 L-82 Pacecar. It has the Canadian Export sticker on the drivers side door jam. Is there anyway to find out how many L-82/Automatic Pacecars were exported to Canada? I am about halfway through the NCRS tech manual and the car appears to be very correct. It does have an 85MPH speedometer vs. the 140 MPH listed in Tech/Judging manual. Car was built in April 78 according to trim tag. Any ideas on speedometer?
The keys have a lost key return tag from Toronto on them so I am trying to track down the original owner for history etc.

Probably not and I say that because unless the numbers are already crunched...they are hard to track down and crunch. What is your build date and VIN?

I have read posts about Canadian export cars and remember that more information is still available concerning these cars. Check out the archives and see what you need to do to obtain the information about your car.

            David -

Call George Zapora at the GM of Canada "Vintage Desk" at their Oshawa, Ontario headquarters, (905) 644-4060; he has all the original detailed documentation for your Canadian-delivered car and will get it to you for about $35.00 - all he needs is your VIN number. Nice guy

Thanks for the assistance . George Zapora from GM Canada Vintage was a great help. My 78 Pacecar was built with the following option codes:
                E5Z Adapter,Speedo Delete
                E6E Sleeve,Speedo (345215)
                E9Z Key, Speedo Delete
Does any of this info help explain why I have an 85MPH speedometer with km listed in smaller orange numbers?
Also where can I get an explanation of Z49 Mandatory Canadian Base Equip. Modifications?

I can only guess that a previous owner substituted the present speedo when the car was repatriated to the US.

Canadian speedos in 1978 should have the Km in large numbers and MPH in small, if my memory is correct.

The GM of Canada documentation package for my Canadian-delivered '69 Camaro Z/28 indicates that the Mandatory Canadian Delivery items include W84 Additional Fuel For Delivery, T60 Heavy Duty Battery, V48 Engine Coolant-Increased Protection (Anti-Freeze), and ZQ7 Canadian Warranty Book & Miscellaneous Literature (plus a GM of Canada Oil Change Recommendation sticker on the left inner fender, which was the only factory-installed item that differentiated a Canadian-delivered Camaro from a U.S. car).
