GM female body molds for mid-years

Some time ago I read a Corvette article which mentioned a set of bodywork molds sold by GM during the sixties. These bolted together with flanges to form a female mold of a mid-year body. I believe the article even showed a picture of several white mold pieces bolted together.

Of course now I can't find the article. I can't even remember where it appeared.

Does anyone remember these molds or the article about them? I may have found a set. I'd like to know more about the manufacturer and how to use them before making an offer. Can they be used as a jig to align GM panels while gluing bonding strips?

I used to see them now and then at swap meets. The local Chevy place had a set. Except for a conversation piece, I have never seen much of a use for them though. If you ever took your car to a dealer and he used them to repair it you would be very unhappy to say the least.

      Wayne -

I can't imagine a good use for these molds other than possibly as jigs. I don't know if they can form a complete female body, but I doubt it. I also don't know if that female body would be accurate enough to serve as a jig.

This set is in Pennsylvania. The owner says he bought the molds from a Chevy dealer, but the original boxes do not show any GM identification. The set doesn't include any parking light panels or the lower grill piece. He does have fender louver panel molds for both the '63-4 and the '65-6 designs. He wants $840 plus shipping for the whole set.
