There was never a Chevrolet PRODUCTION cylinder head of that casting number. So, 3 possibilities come to mind:
1) They are a non-Chevrolet, GM aluminum cylinder head. Somewhat unlikely because I can't think of any other GM vehicle with V-8 that used aluminum heads in that time period;
2) They are a proto-type or experimental cylinder head that somehow "escaped" GM's technical center;
3) They are an aftermarket head of some sort and the number is an aftermarket ID number.
Number 2 is the answer that "I" am told. I did not post that as there always seems to be that "experitmental" story associated with "wierd" stuff.
They are owned by a retired GM employee from Michigan.
If they are experimental as reported, any idea of value? They have no place on a restored car. In many ways, just another set of heads. Maybe some value as engineering pieces. My plan would be to just "use" the darn things.
If they have value, it would be as a collector's item. I would have no idea what it might be, though. As far as use goes, I wouldn't purchase them for that purpose unless they were cheap. No castings of this vintage are going to be anywhere near as good as modern castings which are really not all that expensive.
If they're truly "experimental", they'll have the Winters snowflake AND a casting number that starts with "0-"; all Chevrolet experimental parts of that vintage had an "0-dash" prefix on their identification numbers, which coincided with the Engineering Work Order that authorized their manufacture.
