I think with today's gasoline having a different vapor point than 1960's gas did, you have to set the level about a 1/4" below the sight glass (hole). At least try this before you tear into the carbs. Also, some have blocked the heat crossover under the center carb to help eliminate heat transfer.

It is common Holley-itis caused by the meetering plates being warped. A good rebuilder with knowledge of Holleys and this problem can solve the problem for much less than buying new carbs. Unfortunately the new carbs will be doing the same thing shortly.- Top

Can't you just just flat file the metering plates and mating body. I flat filed all the mating surfaces on my 3810 and the accelerator pump housing as none of them were flat. You might want to try talking to someplace like Quick Fuel Technology or another Holley shop. I have had outstanding customer and technical support from Marty at Quick Fuel Technology getting the quirks worked out of my 3810.- Top
